Chapter 7How long does it take? A Chapter 7 case normally takes about 90 to 100 days from filing to the discharge order. That's the goal - receiving a Discharge. A discharge will eliminate most unsecured debts like credit cards, medical bills, back rent, most personal loans, money you may owe on a vehicle or other property that had been repossessed, payday loans, judgments, etc. A case filing gives rise to what is known as the "Automatic Stay" which serves to immediately stop wage garnishments and lawsuits plus all collection efforts even if the debt has been rendered to a judgment. A Chapter 7 Bankruptcy is a powerful tool in a consumer advocate's tool box and we have been providing this protection to Minnesotans and their families for the better part of 2 decades.
